.Richard Blume: Candidate for Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local Union
No. 992
I am proud to announce my candidacy for the position of Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local Union No. 992 this fall. With a dedicated 38-year career in the LTL freight industry, I have always strongly emphasized commitment to my work and our union. Currently, I work as a P&D driver for ABF Freight in Hagerstown, MD, where I actively advocate for the rights of my fellow Teamsters as a Shop Steward.
My journey with the union began years ago. I gained invaluable experience through active involvement in Local 992, Local 29, and Local 453, where I dedicated 19 years to the cause. I have been honored to serve as a Shop Steward for 16 years, ensuring our members' voices are heard and respected. In 2020, I was appointed Sergeant at Arms for Teamsters Local 992, strengthening my commitment to our collective mission.
In 2023, I had the privilege of being appointed President of Teamsters Local 992. I embrace this role with passion and pride, working alongside our members to protect our rights and advance our union's goals. I also proudly serve as an alternate trustee for our health, welfare, and pension funds, committed to protecting all union members' health care and pension interests.
To enhance my capabilities, I completed the New Trustees Level 1: Core Concepts course, equipping me with crucial skills for managing our funds effectively. I am eager to take on the role of a full-time Trustee, fully embracing my fiduciary responsibilities. My coursework in leadership responsibilities at the University of Maryland has provided me with valuable skills that will enhance my ability to lead our Local Union effectively.
I reside in LaVale, MD, with my wife, Debbie. Together, we are proud parents of five children and are excitedly awaiting the arrival of our seventh grandchild.
As I run for the position of Secretary-Treasurer this October, I bring extensive experience, a deep passion for our union values, and a steadfast commitment to representing the best interests of all our members. I look forward to your support as we move forward together.
